Prioritisation for reliable industrial performance
Red Lion has equipped its NT5000 industrial switches with advanced Quality of Service (QoS) features that optimise traffic management in demanding environments. These capabilities allow the most important data to be prioritised, ensuring that critical applications, such as those used in factories or control systems, to operate without disruption or delay.
The NT5000 QoS system classifies traffic into eight priority levels, ensuring that in times of high demand, urgent data is transmitted first. This prioritisation can be applied using standards such as CoS (Class of Service), PCP (Priority Code Point), DEI (Drop Eligible Indicator) and DPL (Drop Precedence Level).

A key feature is port policing, which allows limiting the bandwidth allocated per port. This prevents unnecessary traffic from saturating the network and helps maintain stable and predictable performance.
In addition, NT5000s can filter or limit unwanted traffic, such as broadcast, multicast or even unneeded unicast connections. This improves both network efficiency and security by helping to prevent congestion, reduce unnecessary bandwidth usage and maintain a more orderly and reliable network environment.
