The Helmholz WALL IE 700-860-WAL01 is an industrial NAT gateway and firewall designed to integrate machines and automation cells into the production network in a controlled manner.

Its Basic NAT, NAPT, port forwarding and packet-filtering functions enable machines with existing IP configurations — including serial machines using identical IP addresses — to be connected without having to modify the complete internal network configuration.

The WALL IE separates the machine LAN from the production WAN and allows the user to define which communications may pass between the two networks.

Integration of machines using duplicate IP addresses

The WALL IE enables multiple machines manufactured with the same network structure and identical internal IP addresses to be integrated into the same production plant. Each machine is separated through NAT and can be represented on the production network using different external addresses.

This avoids individually reconfiguring the PLCs, HMIs, drives, cameras and other Ethernet devices installed inside each machine.

Machine-network segmentation

The separation between the LAN and WAN networks helps limit the traffic entering or leaving the machine. Packet filters can be used to permit only the addresses, protocols and ports required by the application.

Filtering broadcast and multicast traffic also helps reduce unnecessary network load on the production network.
