ProfiShark 100M by Profitap captures Ethernet traffic on 10/100 Mbps RJ45 links to investigate communication issues in machines and industrial networks.
Its fully passive in-line connection is designed for 10/100 Mbps industrial Ethernet diagnostics.
Key Features
- 8 ns hardware timestamping resolution: records packet arrival times for interval, latency and jitter analysis. Resolution is different from synchronization accuracy between devices.
- Frame capture: preserves tags, encapsulation and CRC/FCS error frames for analysis beyond conventional network interface capture.
- Transparent access: ProfiShark and the capture computer do not appear as nodes on the monitored network.
- ProfiShark Manager and Wireshark: configuration, statistics and direct-to-disk capture, with packet analysis in Wireshark or other tools.
- Packet slicing: limits the bytes stored per packet when the application allows reduced capture size.
- PoE passthrough: preserves PoE power delivery to the connected device; it is not a PoE power source.

Capture and link continuity conditions
The in-line link is passive and fail-safe by design. The capture system requires power to record packets.
Applications and Benefits
- Maintenance and commissioning: capture exchanges between PLCs, HMIs, switches and other devices to investigate communication failures and intermittent behavior.
- Technical support: share capture files with manufacturers and integrators, and retain normal-operation traces as a baseline.
- Extended capture: use storage and a compatible NAS to record sporadic faults; verify capacity, platform and drivers.
- Target sectors: machinery OEMs, food processing, automotive, water and energy; choose the capture point for the IT/OT architecture.
How is it installed?
Prepare the computer with ProfiShark Manager and the required drivers; no software is installed on monitored PLCs, HMIs or other devices. In-line insertion requires work on the link and a planned connection. An existing mirror port or TAP can provide another access point, depending on the model.
